Toolbar, Key Selector, Annotation Mode and Layout Operations

The toolbar is the entry-point for the MidiStickers application, from which you can create new widgets, access settings, layout operations and other modes.

Toolbar Buttons:

  • Piano: expands / collapses other buttons
  • Add Widget: opens add new widgets window.
  • Settings: opens settings window..
  • Key Selector: opens the Key Selector in the right-bottom of the screen.
  • Hide/Show Widgets: hides or show all widgets.
  • Annotation Mode: enters annotation mode.
  • Layout Operations: change colors themes, save/load or lock layouts.
  • Exit: closes MidiStickers.

Key Selector

The key selector is a special widget that lets you change the current key. Changing the key will affect many key-dependant widgets, such as roman numerals, figured bass and function symbols. You can use change keys directly from the Staff widget, by using the mousewheel up/down while hovering the staff widget.

Show/Hide Widgets

The Show/Hide Widgets buttons will hide all widgets and MidiStickers windows, except the toolbar.

Annotation Mode

By clicking on the Pen Icon, you will start Annotation Mode. To quit annotation mode, press the Escape key once.

Annotation Controls

While in annotation mode, click on the right mouse button to alternate between drawing/erasing. Use the mousewheel or up/down arrow keys to increase or decrease pen thickness.

Hold Alt to change pen color. Recent colors will be shown right above the color pallete.

You can use Control-Z and Control-Shift-Z shortcuts for Undo / Redo.

Layout Operations

Color Themes

Selecting a Color Theme will affect all newly created widgets. By clicking on “Apply Color Theme”, all current widgets will be updated to match the selected Color Theme.

Saving/Loading/Creating layouts

Any layout (widget arrangement, including position, scales and colors) can be saved and restored at any time. When quitting the program, MidiStickers will prompt you to auto-save your current layout and will load it on the next startup.

When loading a layout, you will be prompted if you want to discard all your existing widgets (default) or if you want to keep the current widgets and load others on top of it.

Locking Layous

The “Lock Layout” will prevent the user from moving or resizing layouts and will also disable widgets outlinining when hovering. This mode is ideal for use while capturing video.
