Scale Degree Widget

The Scale Degree widget displays the currently scale degree for the highest or lowest notes currently played, taking in the account the current tonality.

Settings

Degree Type

Selects which degree will be displayed, if the Melody Degree (highest note) or Bass Degree (lowest note).

Style

  • Caretted Number: Displays the scale degree number with a caret (^) on top, following the Schenkerian-inspired convention.
  • Circled Number: Shows the scale degree inside a circle, following the visual conventions used in Robert Gjerdingen’s partimenti work to represent soprano and basses.
  • Regular Number: Displays a plain scale degree number.
  • Movable Dò Solfege: Uses movable-do solfège syllables (Do, Di, Re, Rah, Mi, etc), following Kodály’s method.

Display Mode:

  • ‘Relese’: Shows the scale degree of the note currently being played. If no note is played, nothing is displayed.
  • ‘Hold’: Retains the last scale degree played. If no note is played, the most recent scale degree remains visible.

Shortcuts

Common shortcuts (shared across all widgets)
  • Ctrl + C: Clones the widget, creating a new instance with the same settings.
  • Ctrl + Left Click: Opens the contextual menu for front/back ordering, background transparency, and widget linking options.
